The University of Ghana (UG) has directed undergraduate students who recorded a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) below 1.00 at the end of the 2025/2026 academic year to withdraw from their programmes.
In a notice published on Facebook on Thursday, October 22, the university’s Academic Affairs Directorate said the directive was in line with Section 9.26 of the University Regulations for Junior Members (2017), which outlines the academic requirements students must meet to progress to the next level.
Under the regulation, students are required to maintain a minimum CGPA of 1.00 and satisfy the academic requirements of their respective schools or departments to qualify for progression.
The Directorate explained that the university’s regulations do not make provision for academic probation. Consequently, students whose CGPAs remain below 1.00 after all grades for their registered courses have been released are required to withdraw from their programmes.
Affected students have been advised to verify their academic standing through the university’s Management Information System (MIS) Web and initiate the withdrawal process via the Student and Staff Portal (STS).
According to the Directorate, students are required to log in to the STS Portal at sts.ug.edu.gh/services using their Student ID and PIN, select the “Withdrawal Request” option, and follow the necessary steps to complete the process.
However, the university noted that the withdrawal process for some programmes would be initiated by the relevant school or department on behalf of affected students.
Students seeking further clarification on their academic status or the withdrawal procedure have been urged to contact their respective College Academic Offices.
The university also assured affected students that support and guidance would be available through its Careers and Counselling Directorate.
