The Northern Regional Police Command has launched investigations into the deaths of three children whose bodies were discovered in the boot of a vehicle at Koblimahagu Zoo in the Tamale Metropolis.

The deceased have been identified as three-year-old Dauda Abdul Aziz, five-year-old Saani Alsharaf, and seven-year-old Dauda Fadilan.

Police said the children left home around 8:00 a.m. on Sunday, October 4, 2026, to attend Islamic classes but did not return. Efforts to locate them continued until about 5:00 a.m. on Monday, October 5, when their bodies were found in the boot of a black Hyundai Tucson.

The vehicle, which was reportedly stuck in mud on a road leading to the area, belongs to a member of the Ghana Immigration Service. The owner told investigators that the vehicle had been stuck for about five days.

A preliminary inspection found the driver’s door and the rear passenger door behind the driver’s seat open, while the remaining doors, including the boot, were locked.

The Inspector-General of Police has since deployed a specialised team of homicide investigators, crime scene experts and intelligence officers to Tamale to assist with the investigation.

The vehicle has been secured for forensic examination, while autopsies are expected to provide further information on the circumstances surrounding the children’s deaths.

Police have urged the public to remain calm and assured residents that all necessary investigative measures are being taken to establish what happened.
