The Black Starlets were left disappointed after letting a comfortable two-goal lead slip in a 2-2 draw against Algeria in their Group D opener at the CAF U-17 Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2026.

Ghana got off to a perfect start, taking the lead just two minutes in through Yao Gavi Robinho, who reacted quickest inside the box to set the tone early for Prosper Narteh Ogum’s side.
Eight minutes later, Eric Adu Gyamfi delivered a stunning moment of brilliance, spotting the Algerian goalkeeper off his line and firing a remarkable long-range volley from midfield to double Ghana’s lead in spectacular fashion.
The Starlets dominated the first half and created several chances to extend their advantage but were let down by poor finishing, allowing Algeria to stay in the game.
After the break, however, Algeria returned with renewed energy and intensity, pushing forward relentlessly and scoring twice before the 70th minute to level the match and stun the Ghanaian side.
Algeria nearly completed the comeback after winning a penalty later in the game, but the spot kick was sent wide.
Elsewhere in the group, South Africa moved to the top of Group D after defeating Senegal.
The Black Starlets will now turn their focus to a crucial second group match against Senegal on May 17, as they look to bounce back and get their campaign back on track.
