The Chairman of the Church of Pentecost, Apostle Eric Nyamekye, has outlined four key pillars he believes are essential to transforming Ghana and raising a new generation of responsible, patriotic citizens.
Delivering the sermon at the 2026 National Day of Prayer in Accra on Wednesday, July 1, Apostle Nyamekye called for a deliberate national reset anchored on moral renewal, education reform, institutional reorientation and stronger family values.
He said these measures are critical to tackling corruption, unemployment and the growing decline in patriotism.
The first pillar, he explained, is the renewal of the mind, urging Ghanaians to turn away from unethical behaviour and embrace integrity and moral living as the foundation for national transformation.
According to him, lasting national development begins with personal transformation, arguing that meaningful change at the national level must first take root in the lives of individuals.
On education, Apostle Nyamekye proposed the introduction of structured civic and ethics education from the basic level through to tertiary institutions. He recommended making subjects such as ethics, civic responsibility and national development compulsory for all students, regardless of their field of study, to help instil patriotism and curb corruption from an early age.
He also called for a greater emphasis on entrepreneurship within the education system, arguing that equipping young people with practical and entrepreneurial skills would reduce unemployment and empower at least 20 percent of graduates to create jobs for themselves and others.
As his third recommendation, Apostle Nyamekye urged the Church to refocus its mission. He cautioned against placing excessive emphasis on material prosperity and religious rituals, instead encouraging churches to prioritise the development of people of integrity who can positively influence society through their professions, businesses and public service.
